Here are the lyrics:
Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to goSo make the best of this test, and don't ask whyIt's not a question, but a lesson learned in time
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.I hope you had the time of your life.
So take the photographs, and still frames in your mindHang it on a shelf in good health and good time Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial For what it's worth it was worth all the while
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life.
Remember - You read and play the chart from left to right .. and practice it slowly at first. If you happen to have a copy of the song to listen to or can get a copy, that would be helpful.

Guitar Lessons - Guitar Tabs

We are going to talk about guitar tablature or "tab" for short. Guitar tab is basically a nice convenient way to write music. When reading guitar tab chart, the 6 strings on a guitar are represented by six horizontal lines. The bottom line is the thick E-string and the top line is the thin "e" string. The numbers on the horizontal lines tell you what fret to put your finger on and it is read from left to right. A tab chart looks like this:
e:--7----------
B:----5--------
G:------7------
D:--------7----
A:----------5--
E:------------5

One thing to keep in mind is that the tab chart doesn't give you the rhythm of the song, so you will have to be familar with the song before attempting to play the tab.
Now lets talk about some of the advanced symbols you may see on tab charts.

Vibratos "v or ~" - vibratos are bends of the note to produce avibrating sound.
Ex. D:-------12vvvvv----- or D:-----------11~~~~~----

Hammer-ons "h" - hammer-on means pressing down on a note without picking the string
Ex. D:------12h14-------------

Pull-offs "p" - this is the opposite with what you do with a hammer-on
Ex. D:------14p13-------------

Guitar Tuning

In todays blog entry, I am going to discuss tuning your guitar.
Let's face it, you could be the greatest player in the world, but if your guitar's out of tune, your gonna sound like crap!

Okay, lets get to it.

There are basically 3 methods of tuning your guitar:

1. Reference tuning - Reference tuning means tuning your guitarto another source such as a piano or another guitar. First youplay the note on the other source and then you play the note onyour guitar. You then turn tuning pegs either right or left untilyour guitar string note matches that of the source note.
....By the way, the six strings from top to the bottom correspond to the following notes: E, A, D, G, B, and E.
Reference tuning if probably the most difficult method and of course its impossible if you have no other source to reference (i.e. :a piano at the house)

2. Relative Tuning - Relative tuning is a method of tuning your guitar to itself. You'll be fine doing it this way if you are just going to be playing by yourself. First you play the low E string at the fifth fret, then play the A string open. Adjust the tuning peg on the A string until the pitches match. Repeat this process on the fifth fret on down the line until the next to last string,(the B string). To tune this string you will use the fourth fret. Finish up using the fifth fret again on the bottom (E) string.

3. Electronic Tuning - Electronic tuning is probably the easiest way to tune your guitar. As the name states, this method uses an electronic tuner to tune your guitar. If you plan on playing guitar long term, you may want to think about investing in one. You will definitely be glad in the long run.

DVD Guitar Legends - The Van Halen Story

I was browsing through my local video store at the mall the other day and came across a DVD titled - "The Van Halen Story : The Early Years ". Now being the huge Van Halen fan that i am, I could not pass this one up. I must say that I was very impressed with the DVD. They start from the beginning - talking about how Eddie originally played drums and it was Alex on the guitar. Eventually they decided to switch and well ... you know the rest. The DVD is a must have for any Van Halen fan. (No Hagar !!!)

Incidently, the Van Halen show is just around the corner in my home town and I cannot wait. I purchased tickets the minute they went on sale. I just hope the band stays together long enough to make it to my March 21st date.
